Digital Cameras

A6 megapixal DSLR is great for most jobs.

Consider battery life. You should get at least two days of regular shooting without recharging.

DSLRs store pictures in memory cards.

Dust is a major enemy of all electronic appliances. See that you don’t get any of it into your DSLR when you change lenses.

DSLR are often much larger than other digital cameras. But that’s small inconvenience, if you want a much better picture.

Saved by a Straw.

Kids love fizzy soft drinks. But these treats can play havoc with their teeth as the sugars and acids attack the enamel. The exact damage depends on how you drink: if you swig from the can , letting it pool at the back of your mouth, then your molars get it, if you sip through your front teeth then they suffer.

US scientists have decided that the safest way to drink the stuff is through a straw into the back of the mouth , minimizing the length of time it’s in contact with your teeth. It’s also a good idea to rinse your mouth with water afterwards.

Only Obeying orders

A series of German drivers have had serious road accidents because they refused to ignore their satellite navigation systems.

Among them was a 53-year –old man who followed the command “ turn right now” 30 meters before a junction . He drove his jeep on to a building site, up a stairway and crashed next to a small toilet block , causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

An 80 –year-old man also ploughed into a pile of sand on a hamburg motorway after trusting his sat-nav rather than a “ closed for construction” sign.

Marilyn Monroe

For A Scene she was shooting for Some Like it Hot in 1959, Marilyn Monroe was supposed to enter a room , walk to a dresser , rummage through the drawers , find a bottle of wine , and ask for a drink .

She got the line wrong 47 times in a row- although far from the famously forgetful movie star’s record of 82 takes. “ On the forty sixth take ,” recalled director Billy Wilder , “ I told her we had put the line on pieces of paper , and they were in a drawer she would open.”

Unfortunately , according to Wilder, “ she went to the wrong piece of furniture.”

Healing Power of Tears

As A CHILD I couldn’t understand why my tear ducts were dry when my grandmother died. But that night when my dad tried to lighten the mood with some tickling at my bedtime tuck-in , my giggles turned into crying , much to my horror-and relief.

So it came as no surprise to learn that researchers believe crying and laughing stem from the same part of the brain. Just as laughing has a host of health benefits(low blood pressure , boosts the immune system), scientists are discovering that so ,too , does crying .

“Whatever it takes for an individual to vent and release stress is essential to our emotional health,” says Jodi Deluca , a neuropsychologist . And crying seems to work well : One survey found that 85% of women and 73% of men felt better after crying.

Even more important than acting as stress relievers , tears attract help from other people around us become milder and less aggressive , and they’re more likely to provide support and comfort.

Tears enable self-disclosuer too ; sometimes we don’t even know we’re upset until we cry . “We learn about our emotions through crying ,and then we can deal with them,” says neuroscientist William H.Frey II , author of crying: The Mystery of Tears .

Just as crying can be healthy , not crying-holding back tears of anger or grief-can be bad of our bodies. Studies have linked emotional repression to high blood pressure, heart problems and cancer. “ We are genetically programmed to cry ,and denying that impulse damages our physical well –being ,” says DeLuca .

Despite the benefits of bawling , if crying interferes with everyday life, see your doctor or a therapist . It could be an early sign of depression.

Doctors aren’t prescribing sob sessions just yet; how much we cry depends on genetics ,gender and upbringing .But when you feel like weeping, don’t fight it. It’s a natural and healthy – emotional response.
